Topic review

Here here! Very poetic.

I think that while the initial perception was that if we are all in a uniform, militaristic line, the picketing looks better, in fact, we can be a little more relaxed about it.

Alternatively, picket captains could tactfully assign good "pacers" to lead the line if they want everyone to stick together.

Walking

It is understandable to want to stay at the same pace as your colleagues. It is hard, however, just like curriculum, for one pace to fit all walkers. I think the best thing to do is for each person to go at a pace that is comfortable for him/herself so we can all last as long as we possibly can.

That said, from a fitness standpoint, it is advisable to change your pace every once in a while. Go quickly sometimes and slowly others. Take long steps sometimes and short ones others. This will tax different muscle groups while giving others a break. You can also do this by changing the shoes you wear each day (or even bring two pair and change mid-day). This will change the way you walk, also giving your muscles a break.

Concerns: Speed Walkers

I'm a "senior" teacher at a school with LOTS of younger teachers who are in great shape! How can I tactfully suggest we're not going to a fire? I think some of the aches & pains would be assuaged if we kept a steady MODERATE pace. I'm willing and able to walk, but my body isn't able to run all day. Thanks. aslongasittakes
